What Is The Best Luxury Vinyl?

What is the best luxury vinyl plank and luxury vinyl tile flooring? This is is a common question we get and while we don’t have a favorite manufacturer or brand, per se, we wanted to share some of the key attributes to pay attention to as you shop for luxury vinyl.

Color

You are updating your flooring because you want your home to look nice. That means how the color and style of the floor fits in your space is of the utmost importance. We have seen that lighter browns are a popular choice right now with homeowners, like the picture above of one of our popular in-stock luxury vinyl floors. Additionally, grey and rustic, barn wood looks remain customer favorites. At the end of the day, all that matters is that you like the color and style of the flooring. We recommend taking  flooring samples home so you can see how they fit into your space before you make a final decision!

Luxury Vinyl Core

Most luxury vinyl floors have an SPC or WPC core. The construction of both cores makes luxury vinyl very resistant to topical water damage, wear, denting, and scratching. However, there are some differences between the two types of cores that you should be aware of.

SPC (stone plastic composite) cores are more dense and contain stone and plastic. Due to its rigid makeup, SPC luxury vinyl is not as thick as WPC. Keep this in mind as you shop for luxury vinyl. There are many high quality, good performing SPC luxury vinyl options with overall thickness less than 5 mm!

WPC (wood plastic composite) cores are thicker. Due to this, they are normally warmer and quiet underfoot. Although wood is contained in the core, WPC floors offer the same waterproof benefits as SPC luxury vinyl.

Both SPC and WPC luxury vinyl floors are great choices for any room in your home!

Wear Layer
Luxury vinyl floors have an extra level of protection on top of the SPC/WPC core called a wear layer. Wear layers protect the ffloor from scratching, denting, and wearing through the design layer on top. Wear layers are measured in mils, or one-thousandth of an inch. Common wear layers are 6, 12, and 20. All wear layers offer similar warranties but the higher the mils, the more protection you will have against traffic wearing down your floors. 12 mil luxury vinyl is more than adequate for a space with normal household traffic.

Warranty
All manufacturers offer some sort of warranty on their luxury vinyl floors. It’s not a bad idea to look into the warranty before you buy. The warranty should, at a minimum, cover water damage (topical spills), typical traffic wear, and manufacturing defects. The warranty should also spell out how long it is in effect. We carry many luxury vinyl products with lifetime residential warranties, offering you the peace of mind that your flooring purchase is a sound investment.
